1.             SG explained the design village concept

2.             SG explained zolijns, archohm and jcbl and their relationships.

3.             SG explained that he wanted explore the possibility of establishing a strategic partnership with Domus as an endeavor to promote the design school, to position it at the top. This could also give Domus a great positioning in the Indian market.

4.             SG also explained the design museum initiative, specially the collaboration with the Vitra Design Museum. This could be another initiative that Domus could support.

5.             Domus expressed its keen interest in the Indian market. They were in advanced talk with Spenta publishing in Mumbai. If things go well, they will sign a contract with them in September and the first india edition might be launched as early as October.

6.             SM explained that though they have a publication partner in Mumbai, it does not stop them from having any other alliances in the country. They could help organize competitions, assist in exhibitions and workshops, conferences etc at an independent level. The publication can be an added asset if required as they have the control over the content.

7.             SM also suggested that they would exchange notes with their editor in chief and their brand manager for support.

8.             SG suggested that they would like to first brainstorm on various possibilities of collaboration before entering into a concrete solution together. For this, SG requested for material to understand Domus and is to send relevant material to Domus to understand, archohm, its partners, design village and India.

9.             SM suggested a meeting with the team on 22nd September on SG’s visit for the Bologna fair to Italy. This would give time to both teams to discuss and review their positions. This would potentially include Govana Massocchi, the chief editor and the marketing head of Domus.

10.         Sm also suggested that the Zolijns collaboration could be the stepping stone towards a direct partnership. SG assured to send the Zolijns coverage in india to give them an idea of the design space in publication in the country. SG also assured further assistance to Domus directly if required.

11.         Collaborating on exhibitions could be an easy possibility. This could mean a preview of the exhibition in the print media and publications that could be sold or alternatively in merchandise. We could also have a look at Domus model kits which have been successful.

12.         Collaborating on the design competition in India could be another interesting proposition as Domus has organized design competitions with bmw in the past.

13.         Monographs and books on design in coordination with the design village was something Domus could look into. Domus and Taschen have collaborated in the past very well.

14.         Design village could have a regular feature in the space put aside for the Domus india magazine section.

15.         Next  step is to be exchange materials and build an agenda for the September meeting to follow.

An interesting case study by Isha : Foundation for Liberal and Management Education (FLAME), Pune

The idea of offering a flexible education pattern that encourages inter disciplinary studies was conceived by Mr Parag Shah and Mr Nemish Shah. in 2004. They bought  large chunks of land near Pune (as they were already dealing with real estate markets as a parallel business)
They approached Prof B.V Doshi (he was a family friend) to build the campus for this university. After intensive travelling to Europe and US, visiting campuses, they had a clearer idea of what they wanted.
Admissions for the first batch happened in 2007.

Their coup was
Indira J Parikh
Ph. D (Gujarat)
Founder President FLAME
Prof. Indira Parikh was a faculty at IIM-A for over 30 years and Dean from 2002 to 2005. She has also taught at INSEAD, Fontainebleau (France) and Texas A&M University.

She later brought many faculty members through her contact, like

Prakash M Shingi
Ph. D (University of Illinois, USA)

USP: They got hold of good faculty members (beginning with the top notch and made them deans/directors) and their contacts brought in other faculty members.
Compulsory residential student programs - encouraging more interactions (they started something called the mentorship programs, like the gurukul system)
Also residential programs brought in more financial returns.

I know the founder - Mr Parag Shah (a friend's maternal uncle). I can arrange for a meeting with him if you think it is worth a visit.
